Assessment of the spine’s range of motion and any areas of tenderness, along with a comprehensive neurological examination, to check for any nerve involvement.
X-rays are useful for assessing the bones in the spine and the alignment of the spine. Can detect any instability in the spine.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scans are used to get more detailed imaging of the bones, spinal discs, ligaments, joints, muscles and spinal cord or spinal nerves.
CT of the spine gives detailed images of the bony structures in the spine. CT scan can also be performed for other parts of the body to detect disease elsewhere that may travel to the spine.
